Job Posting: Child & Senior Programs Specialist

Food for People, the food bank for Humboldt County, is seeking a Child and Senior Programs Specialist to work as part of our dynamic team. The Specialist works under the direction of the Child & Senior Programs Coordinator to assist with providing direct client services at senior distribution sites, in addition to warehouse logistical duties (packing and loading food orders) for the three countywide programs for seniors and homebound  adults and two countywide Child Nutrition Programs (Backpacks for Kids and Children’s Summer Lunch).  

This requires physical/lifting tasks, accurate counting and math for inventory tracking, completing paperwork, and adhering to program regulations in all distribution procedures. The Specialist prepares Senior, Homebound, and Child Nutrition Program food orders in our warehouse for senior program site distributions; delivery to remote site distribution partners; and food order pick-ups from our warehouse by volunteer delivery drivers and site partners. 

The person hired must have a strong ability to work independently and accurately; have a passion for communicating and working with seniors and people with disabilities; be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively; be comfortable driving a cargo van and a 20ft box truck; and have strong math and tracking skills. The candidate must work well as part of a team as well, and be great at multitasking and staying organized.

The pay rate is $19/hour. Medical, vision, dental, life insurance and matching retirement benefits are available upon successful completion of an introductory period. We also provide sick, vacation, and holiday time. Candidates willing to make a long-term commitment to the position are preferred.

 Food for People is designated as the Food Bank for Humboldt County, and we are considered Humboldt County's primary hunger relief organization, providing food assistance through a network of programs and partnerships that reach more than 21,000 low income children, seniors, and others each month. Food for People currently operates a total of 18 programs for individuals of all ages whose financial circumstances have left them without adequate resources to purchase food.

Qualifications:

Must possess a combination of education, experience, skills, and abilities necessary to carry out the job, including but not limited to the following:
